My Boss Made Me Do This

I don’t blog. I don’t do community sites like FaceBook or MySapce. I don’t actually read too many blogs. And, it goes without saying, I don’t visit too many community sites.

In short, I’ve been carefully crafting my seemingly anonymous and sheltered future as the technologically challenged grandma who can’t even set up her own remote control.

Part of it is a privacy thing. A bigger part of it is a time thing. But as my publishing house continues to morph into a content agnostic media company, and I into a content agnostic editor, I’ve discovered that resistance is, indeed, quite futile.

So I’m jumping in (okay, easing in) …

I now have a profile on the just-launched WritersMarket.com Community page (we can even be “friends”!), and here I am, cautiously dipping my toe into the blogosphere.

In all honesty, I expect to enjoy it. I love writing, and I’d love to do more writing. This is the perfect encouragement. The gentle nudge I know I need. My colleague and cubicle neighbor Alice Pope, the editor of Children’s Writer’s & Illustrator’s Market, is an inspiration with her fantastic CWIM blog (http://www.cwim.blogspot.com) and her oh-so-addictive (it really is!) shopping blog Material Girl (http://matgirl.blogspot.com/). And many of the authors I work with have wonderful, humorous, touching blogs, including Heather Sellers (http://www.heathersellers.com/blog), N.M. Kelby (http://www.nmkelby.com), Becky Levine (http://beckylevine.livejournal.com/62500.html), and Jordan Rosenfeld (http://www.jordansmuse.blogspot.com/), just to name a few.

And so, with this small 276-word whisper of a posting, I, too, have become a blogger. I’ll be back later to talk about some trends I see in publishing, but for now, I’m off to figure out how to program my TiVo for the next season of Scrubs
